Our Holy Prophet Muhammad loved eating these food items – both for their taste and their benefits and advantages. It is direct Sunnah to use these items while cooking food. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ believed in these items’ benefits for the human body and loved eating them.

1) Honey

Narrated by Sayyida ‘Aisha (radi Allahu ‘anha):
The Prophet, salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to like sweet edible things and honey
(Sahih Bukhari, 586)

Also good for: Liver, kidney, bladder,

2) Dates

Narrated by Sayyida ‘Aishah, radi Allahu ‘anha: That the Prophet, salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “A house without dates, its inhabitants will be hungry.”
(jami’a at-Tirmidhi, book 23, Hadith 1815)

3) Milk 

Sayyidina Abu Bakr Siddiq, radi Allahu ‘anhu, reported: As we went along with Allah’s Messenger (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, from Mecca to Medina, we passed by a shepherd and Allah’s Messenger ﷺ was feeling thirsty. He (Abu Bakr Siddiq) said: I milked for him a small quantity of milk (from his goat) and brought it to him (the Holy Prophet ﷺ), and he drank it and I was very happy. (Sahih Muslim, 4983)

4) Watermelon

Sayyida Aisha radi Allahu ‘anha says, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, ate watermelon with fresh dates.”
(Shama’il at-Tirmidhi, book 29, Hadith 191)

5) Muskmelon

Sayyidina Anas bin Malik, radi Allahu ‘anhu, says, “I saw the Messenger of Allah, salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, eat together musk-melon and dates.” (Shama’il at-Tirmidhi, book 29, Hadith 190)

6) Cucumbers

‘Abdu Llah ibn Ja’far, radi Allahu ‘anhu, says, “The Messenger of Allah, salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ate Qith’thaa (cucumbers) with dates.” (Shama’il at-Tirmidhi, book 29, Hadith 188)

7) Olives and its oil

Narrated Abu Asid: “The Prophet, salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “Eat of its oil and use it (the olives), for indeed it is from a blessed tree.” (jami’a at-Tirmidhi, book 23, Hadith 1852)

6) Gourd

Sayyidina Anas bin Malik, radi Allahu ‘anhu, narrates: “I saw the Messenger of Allah, salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, taking from the sides around the dish – meaning the gourd. Since then I still like it.” (Jami’a at-Tirmidhi, book 23, 1850)

7) Vinegar

Sayyidina Jabir, radi Allahu ‘anhu reports: That the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “What an excellent condiment vinegar is.” (Jami’a at-Tirmidhi, book 23, 1842)

8) Barley 

Sayyida Salma, radi Allahu ‘anha, says that Hasan, ‘Abdullah ibn Abbas and ‘Abdullah ibn Ja’far Sadiq, radi Allahu ‘anhum, came to her and said: Cook for us the food that Rasulu Llah, salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, liked and ate with pleasure. She replied, O my children, you will not like it now. (It was only liked in times of hardships.) They replied, Of course, we will surely like it.

She got up and took a bit of barley, (crushed it) and put it in a pot, and poured a little olive oil over it, then crushed some chillies and spices and added it to the pot and served it, saying, This is what the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam loved (and ate with pleasure). (Shama’il at-Tirmidhi, book 25, Hadith 169)
